Naftalan, a mineral oil obtained by distillation of naphthenic oil, is considered a natural healing agent.
This type of oil contains a high percentage of petroleum hydrocarbons, particularly steranes, compounds that are similar in structure to steroid hormones and provitamin D. The healing property of naftalan derives precisely from the steranes. The naphthenic oil site near Ivanic-Grad was discovered in the 1960s.
